Black Sabbath guitarist has cancer

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with cancer, a statement from the English heavy metal band said.

In the early stages of lymphoma, “Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan,” according to a statement released Monday. “His bandmates would like everyone to send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time.”

The band said it will now travel to the United Kingdom to continue to work with Iommi.

In November the four original members of Sabbath — Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward — announced they were recording a new album with producer Rick Rubin and would tour in the fall of 2012.

Katie Couric will be ‘all over the place,’ ABC News boss says

Ben Sherwood, the president of the networks news division, told reporters Monday that viewers will see a lot of Couric before the September launch of her daytime chat fest.

“Were going to showcase her all over the place,” Sherwood told reporters at the semiannual TV press tour in Pasadena.

In fact, ABC is already making good on that pledge. Couric recently showed up on “20/20″ to interview pop diva Beyonce and even found an unlikely role as Lady Gagas interrogator on a Thanksgiving special.

The option arises more than once at the American Museum of Natural History’s new show, “Beyond Planet Earth: The Future of Space Exploration.”

The best might be the “Mars Terraforming Table,” a play station that starts as a wide touchscreen depicting a Martian panorama, dry, red and barren. The vista changes depending on the instructions. The idea is to “terraform” inhospitable Mars, tweak it until it becomes earth-like, a big job but apparently doable.

Nick Cannon is in the hospital recovering from a “mild kidney failure,” according to wife Mariah Carey.

On January 4, Carey took to her Twitter page to announce that her husband was in the hospital.

“Please pray for Nick as he’s fighting to recover from a mild kidney failure. #mybraveman,” Carey on her official Twitter page.

The singer also took to her official website to go into deeper detail about the situation, and ask for prayers and support from her fans.

“This is us in the hospital – role reversal,” Carey wrote on her official website.
