Kirk Cameron says he “spoke as honestly” as he could when he expressed his opinion about homosexuality in an interview last week, which spurred criticism from former “Growing Pains” co-stars and LGBT rights group GLAAD.
The former teen idol, who played Mike Seaver on the 1980s sitcom and is a born-again Christian, adds he has gay friends himself.
Cameron, 41, had said on the CNN show “Piers Morgan Tonight” he thinks homosexuality is “unnatural” and “detrimental” and added that he does not support same-sex marriage.
The actor said in a new statement posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday: “In some people’s eyes, my responses were not sufficiently ‘loving’ toward those in the gay community.

NEW YORK (AP) – Target is pulling a greeting card that makes fun of the late singer Whitney Houston’s penchant for bad boys.
The discounter said Wednesday the card was sold in its stores prior to Houston’s death on Feb. 11, and as soon as it was brought to the retailer’s attention, Target Corp. began “the process of removing the card.”
The card reads: “Next time you think of dating the bad boy, consider Whitney Houston.”
The text refers to Houston’s rocky relationship with ex-husband and singer Bobby Brown. Brown has been blamed by some for Houston’s reported drug use.
“It is never our intent to offend guests with the products we offer, and we take feedback from guests very seriously,” said Target in a statement emailed to The Associated Press.
Houston, 48, was found dead hours before she was to attend a pre-Grammy Awards party.

“GCB” star Leslie Bibb stopped by “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (Weeknights, 12 a.m. EST) Wednesday night and revealed that she says the most inappropriate things when she gets too excited.
After showing off “this weird claw hand” she does when she’s excited, Bibb talked about what happened the time she saw Meryl Streep.
She was sitting with her agent when she spotted the screen legend. Bibb’s visceral reaction was, “I just want to go punch her out! … She’s soooo cute!”
Cooler heads prevailed, however, as Bibb’s agent advised her to steer clear of Streep.
And it was just as well — reliving the moment, Bibb realized that “I kind of wanted to eat her! … Her little cheeks!
